FMDS Dean participated in the Walking Workshop in Finland and Presented Papers in Sweden and UK

Dr. Joane V. Serrano, Professor and Dean of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS), presented a paper in a public seminar hosted by The School of Global Studies – University of Gothenburg on 13 April 2023. Her presentation entitled Ubiquitous Walking: Blending of Offline and Online Approaches Toward Climate Action shared the results of integrating walking as a reflexive and learning tool in some of the environmental and communication courses she handled. She also presented at the University of Plymouth on 22 April 2023.

Dr. Serrano also participated in the Walking Workshop entitled Empathetic Trails: Sustainable Relations in Contested Territories on 16 to 19 April 2023 in Turku, Finland. The walking workshop featured diverse topics related to walking as a practice and as a research methodology and explored different ways of connecting and understanding human’s place in a landscape or coastscape.

Dr. Serrano is part of the walking research network: One by Walking which creates a platform for research, collaboration and experimentation related to walking methodologies. The network was founded in 2020 and is funded by Swedish Riksbanken’s Jubileumsfond and NOS-HS (Nord Forsk).
